In the marvellous Madrid of the Habsburgs, on one of the sides of the Plaza Mayor, you can find this legendary restaurant that offers excellent Castilian cuisine and that, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is the oldest restaurant in the world.

It was founded in 1725. It has four floors if we include the cellar; it was built in the XVI century and its vaults give it a very peculiar style. The restaurant is specialised in Castilian cuisine; for those people who want to enjoy a typical Castilian meal we recommend the following combination of starters, main courses and desert: gazpacho to start with, then a roast suckling pig, which is the restaurant's speciality, and for pudding a sponge cake with meringue and cream.  

Indeed any dish on the menu is worth trying, but without doubt its speciality is suckling pig, with its crispy skin, and also a tasty and succulent wood-oven roasted lamb.

With regards to the starters, we also offer black pudding from Burgos, pig trotters in batter, garlic soup with egg or gazpacho in summer, as well as ham with melon, artichokes in batter or tasty salads.

We have had many famous guests at our restaurant, from world famous actors to heads of state, but without doubt intellectuals from the past such as Benito Pérez Galdós or Hemingway are the culprits of contributing towards the Botín myth. These are some of the many foreign authors who were seduced by our eighteenth century inn atmosphere when travelling across Spain: John Dos Passos, Scott Fitzgerald, Graham Greene, Ernest Hemingway, Frederick Forsyth...what more could you ask for?

Our recommendations: roast suckling pig, lamb, baked hake, fisherman's clams and sirloin.
