A lengthy route through the northern part of the historic centre, from the district known as Bourbon Madrid (the area around the cuartel del Conde-
Duque, or Conde - Duque barracks (click here) - to the paseo de Recoletos. In between there is a fascinating labyrinth of narrow, winding streets that open into roughly formed squares; there are also two museums which are essential to an understanding of the history of Madrid: the Museo Municipal (click here) and the Museo Romántico.
