The most elegant avenue in this city, the Paseo del Prado stretches from the fountain of Cibeles to Atocha railway station. Although
it dates back to the C16th, it was Carlos III who, two centuries later, ordered the architect Ventura Rodríguez to build the famous fountains which decorate its route. Since then, it has been renovated several times, only adding to its status of distinction which today is enhanced by its position as a leading artistic focal point.
