Once booked, keep the date, time, train number and exact station to hand. Check your operator\u2019s messages before leaving.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_llegar_a_Atocha_y_encontrar_tu_tren\"><\/span>Getting to Atocha and finding your train<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Metro station connected to the interchange is called <strong>Atocha, on line 1<\/strong>. Its former name, Atocha Renfe, changed in 2022. <strong>Estaci\u00f3n del Arte is a different stop<\/strong> on the same line: do not confuse the names when using an old map.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the complex, follow the signs for your service. If you arrive on Cercan\u00edas and change to a train with controlled boarding, allow time to walk through the station and pass any required checks. If taking a taxi or being picked up, specify the relevant arrivals or departures area and confirm the meeting point.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_llegar_a_Chamartin-Clara_Campoamor\"><\/span>Getting to Chamart\u00edn-Clara Campoamor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Chamart\u00edn connects with Metro lines 1 and 10 and Cercan\u00edas.<\/strong> When planning your journey, select the full railway station name: the Chamart\u00edn district and Pinar de Chamart\u00edn Metro station are different destinations.<\/p>\n<p>Adif announced completion of the station renovation in June 2026. Use the current signs rather than access instructions from earlier phases of the works. Follow the signs for your service and allow time to walk through the station.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crtm.es\/tu-transporte-publico\/intermodalidad\/otros-intercambiadores\/chamartin\/\">CRTM\u2019s Chamart\u00edn connections<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adif.es\/viajeros\/grandes-proyectos\/transformacion-chamartin\">Adif\u2019s station information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_ir_de_Atocha_a_Chamartin_paso_a_paso\"><\/span>Atocha to Chamart\u00edn: step by step<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Under normal operating conditions, Cercan\u00edas connects the two stations. For example, the official diagram for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crtm.es\/datos_lineas\/esquemas\/5C2.pdf\">line C2<\/a> shows the route <strong>Atocha, Recoletos, Nuevos Ministerios and Chamart\u00edn<\/strong>. Other services use the tunnel via Sol; check the displays to confirm that your train stops at your destination.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On arrival at Atocha, follow the signs for <strong>Cercan\u00edas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether your ticket includes the transfer, or buy a valid ticket.<\/li>\n<li>Choose a train whose list of stops includes <strong>Chamart\u00edn-Clara Campoamor<\/strong>. Do not board solely because you remember a platform number from a previous journey.<\/li>\n<li>On arrival, leave the Cercan\u00edas area and follow the signs for your next train or the Metro, as appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For the reverse journey, choose a service that stops at <strong>Atocha<\/strong>. Check the fare and terms before booking.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Time on the train is not the same as the time needed for the whole connection.<\/strong> Allow for getting off the first train, walking through both stations, waiting and boarding. As an editorial planning guideline, we would avoid booking two long-distance trains at different stations less than 90 minutes apart. This does not guarantee the connection: allow longer with bulky luggage, if you need assistance or if missing the second train would be unacceptable. Check your rights if the tickets are separate.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Que_billete_necesitas_y_cuanto_cuesta_el_enlace\"><\/span>Tickets and transfer fares<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Renfe lists a single Cercan\u00edas ticket at <strong>\u20ac1.70 for one or two zones<\/strong>. Check the fare for your selected origin and destination and any cost for the ticket medium. If using Cronos contactless payment, tap in and out with the same payment method. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renfe.com\/es\/es\/cercanias\/cercanias-madrid\/tarifas\/billetes\">official fares and conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before buying, check whether your train ticket includes <strong>Combinado Cercan\u00edas<\/strong>. Renfe includes this benefit with AVE and long-distance tickets, allowing use from four hours before departure until four hours after arrival. Confirm the coverage for your ticket and follow its instructions; do not assume it applies to every operator or fare. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renfe.com\/es\/es\/viajar\/prepara-tu-viaje\/billetes-ave-y-largadistancia\/basico.html\">Renfe\u2019s conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_enlazar_con_el_aeropuerto_de_Madrid\"><\/span>Getting to Madrid Airport<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The current CRTM diagram shows <strong>C1 between Chamart\u00edn-Clara Campoamor and Aeropuerto T4<\/strong>, via Fuente de la Mora and Valdebebas. From Atocha, plan the connection to Chamart\u00edn first and then take C1, unless the official journey planner offers another option for your travel date. Do not assume there is a direct C1 from Atocha because an old guide says so.<\/p>\n<p>Check your flight terminal: <strong>Aeropuerto T4 is not the same as T1, T2 or T3<\/strong>. Allow for any transfer between terminals and the time needed before your flight. Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crtm.es\/datos_lineas\/esquemas\/5C1.pdf\">official C1 route<\/a> and information from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aena.es\/es\/adolfo-suarez-madrid-barajas\/como-llegar\/tren.html\">Aena<\/a>. To continue along the same line beyond Atocha, change to another C5 train. This notice does not mean that the entire Atocha\u2013Chamart\u00edn connection is closed. <a href=\"https:\/\/grupo.renfe.com\/es\/es\/sala-de-prensa\/avisos\/2026\/septiembre\/linea-c5-atocha-octubre-2026\">Renfe service notice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For other dates, check <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adif.es\/viajeros\/avisos\">Adif\u2019s notices<\/a>, information from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renfe.com\/es\/es\/cercanias\/cercanias-madrid\">Cercan\u00edas Madrid<\/a> and messages from your train operator.
